Newcastle Beach is open to a lot of southerly swells. The waves down this coast can be big and powerful when there is a lot of water moving around and particularly in strong winds. Not really great when it is onshore in more easterly winds, but there are a few spots both north and south, Nobbys Beach and Merewether that also have a few nice peaks. Newcastle is home to a lot of beach breaks with shifty peaks that produce a fun fast Shorey with a great wall to hit the lip on. Due to Newcastles beaches being more open to the swells they mainly produce waves for the intermediate to more experienced surfers.
